It was a beautiful
hot sunny Saturday morning as 17 BMAPEI members turned out to Bill Dalziel's
body shop for a session on detailing your car. The chosen victim wsa
supplied by Gabriel Bentley, her 1976 MGB. After trashing (verbally) the
paint work on the car in the course of exhibiting the latest body shop tool
to determine the extent of paint coverage , Bill and one of his workers set
to gently wet sanding and buffing the engine bonnet of the car. They started
with the slow hand process and then brought out the mechanized sanding
tools. The results were truly amazing but I am not sure what Gabe is going
to do with half a buffed engine bonnet.
Below are notes that
Frank Boothroyd was able to glean from the discussion and demo for any of
you so inclined to set about buffing and detailing your car.
Hi Bob.
Here are my notes on the detailing session.
Clean with "Cleansol #3919"
Sandpaper with 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit (in that order).
Sandpaper should be soaked in water for 24 hours prior to use.
Wet car with car soap/water prior to sanding.
Buff with rubbing compound #3M-05933. Should rub some of this
into the buffer first and use low RPMs. The buffer pad
recommended for general use is the red foam pad from McGuiar's
(the fellow couldn't remember the product number).
Finally, wax with MeGuiar's Mirror Glaze #26.

Eastern Road Trip
Just a brief
report on the great event we had today! Despite the gray start to the day
and the wetness on the highway encountered on our trip to town, the
weather man once again performed magic and produced a glorious top down
day.
The first treat of
the day was to see Bill and Elizabeth Glenn's TR 3 turn up for the event.
After careful inspection it was deemed fit and the Glenn's car was later
designated as convoy leader!
15 dined at
Smitty's and each swore not to eat again that day! In addition to the 15
diners we were joined by Peter Norton in his Austin Healey who dropped by
to say farewell to Paula Mac lean and Brian Jones. The Speneceleys,
Suplers, Veniots, Le Chasseur/Woodington, Dan Tweel and Bentley's rounded
out the group to a very respectable convoy group.
The second treat
was to see the new BMAPEI digital camera alive and well and happily
snapping shots for the history file of BMAPEI. After breakfast we headed
off to Dan Tweel's to pick up our regalia treasure trove as many of us had
money to burn as a result of the recent reduction in gas on PEI. Record
sales were recorded and the regalia trove is now down to a pittance.
Off we went to
Murray Harbor stopping off first for Bill to adjust the points on the TR 3
and later at Orwell( planned stop) where Bill changed points before any of
us could allow our cars to cool down. Unfortunately Orwell was closed so
off we go to Rossignol Winery in Little Sands. Greeted courteously by the
very old Newfoundland dog, we got a chance to view the addition to the
Rossignol winery, watch the ferry boat crossing to NS, and generally take
in the great seascape. The sun shone brighter and all tops were removed.
Err that's cars only! Fast talking and attentive listening took place as
Jim Supler pointed out the merits of owning a Rover 100. There was
certainly more than one interested person as the marvel of the empire's
automotive technology was explored.
Off for the final
leg to Murray Harbor. We arrived at Brehaut's restaurant. They were open.
After doubling back to find Chris and Denise we all congregated in the
restaurant. How could we be hungry!! That fresh air, sun and wind will do
it to you every time. The food was great and the service friendly. If you
haven't been to Brehaut's, Go! A Gem at low prices!! While there Gord
and Mary Mac Donald phoned to say that they had experienced clutch
problems and couldn't join us.
The food ,
merriment and great camaraderie was a great way to end the day. We left
Brehaut's around 2:00 PM, saying goodbye's to Brian and Paula who sadly
will soon locate to Connecticut. Best wishes to you guys.
We also hope
that Chris had happy hunting on his Chatty Cathy doll purchase. If you
have one call Chris . He is a motivated buyer!!
Thanks to everyone
who turned out and for those who couldn't make it this time see you next
time.
with apologies to
