This car is a 1980 MGB whose
official manufacture date (courtesy British Motor Industry Heritage Trust) was
May 14 1980. It was shipped and sold through Continental Cars Inc West in St
Louis MO. It was ordered by, and sold to, the owner of that dealership for his
wife. It appears Richard is the fourth owner of the car. It spent its life in
St. Louis and had just over 28,000 miles on it when Richard purchased it.
Richard purchased the car in
October 2003, sight unseen (foolish him, he states), on eBay. As it turned
out, he got a good car that was essentially all the seller said it would be
(both in faults and strong points). Although the body was in good condition
with original paint there were a number (23 year’s worth) of scratches and
minor scrapes. It had the full compliment of emission control hardware
fully operational as shipped from the factory. One does not usually see that
on cars around here.
Since acquiring it last fall
the emission control system has been "gutted" and a pair of SU carbs (HIF's)
installed. The car was stripped of all trim, chrome, bumpers, etc and
repainted. New carpets were installed in the cockpit and in the "boot" as was
new webbing and foams in the seats. Although there is always more Richard
would like to do, he is very happy with the car. He has yet to do something to
modify the seats (lower them) so he doesn't look out over top of the
windshield. That is one of the unique problems of being 6'5'' tall and owning LBC's!
Thanks Richard the car
looks great!
