Our Seventh anniversary
What’s
new/Cool this year?
This year we celebrate the 70 Th anniversary of the Jaguar motorcar.
In
September 1935 William Lyons requested a new model name for the cars to be
powered by the new overhead-valve (ohv) engine developed by William Heynes. The
name jaguar, pronounced 'jag-u-er' is selected.
This year also marks the 60 Th anniversary of the formation
of Jaguar Cars Ltd. On 9 April 1945 the company name is changed from S.S. Cars Ltd. to Jaguar
Cars Ltd. Steele Jaguar Ltd will have a fabulous display to observe the anniversaries.
We recognize members of the Fredericton Area British
Automobile Club (FABAC). The club was formed in 2001and boasts 144
members. The club holds regular motoring
and social events and has no membership charges (how do they do it). They have
an excellent web site at www.fabac.ca
President Bob reminds us not to forget the 50th
anniversary of the introduction of the MGA. In total over 101,000 MGA’s were
manufactured making it among the most popular of all British sports cars.
We’re coming to Summerside! Our closing ceremony on Sunday
July 10 will be at the College of Piping in Summerside. You can expect great Summerside
hospitality, an excellent meal and great entertainment.
We’re also going to Cavendish! There will be no shortage of
space, food or fun at the Awards Banquet this year! It will be held at Rainbow
Valley lobster suppers in the heart of Anne Land, Cavendish PEI.
Be sure to bring the kids along as we feature kids
activities again at the show. If you don’t have the kids to bring why not pack
your clubs and enter our growing golf tournament, being held once again at
breathtaking New Glasgow Golf and Country resort on Friday morning. We are
refurbishing the valve cover race track and you can expect better competition
this year, so ladies and gentlemen start your engines!
This year we expect the weatherman to cooperate so that we
can award the Harry Stevens Memorial Motorcycle trophy in honor of our friend
and car and motorcycle enthusiast the late Harry Stevens who passed away in
2003.
We have a new regalia chairperson and she promises to
improve our regalia this year and yes we will have some great things for our
female members also.
